For LEED v4 certification, the indoor environmental quality (IEQ) category covers more than just air quality. It includes thermal comfort, interior lighting, daylighting and acoustic performance. There are two prerequisites:
Achieve minimum indoor air quality performance according to ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2010 (includes monitoring)
- Prohibit smoking inside the building and outside, except for designated areas located at least 25 feet from all entries, outdoor air intakes and operable windows.
For schools, no smoking is allowed on the entire site and no-smoking signage must be within 10 feet of entrances.
Once the prerequisites are met, there are nine other credits in the IEQ category, earning from 1 to 3 points each for a total possible points of 16.
See LEED Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ) from the U.S. Green Building Council for more information.
